Oil Prices Break $100 as Wall Street Faces a New Inflation Threat

Crude Oil Surges Above $100 as Rising Energy Costs Put Fresh Pressure on U.S. Stock Markets

October 8, 2026 | U.S. Economy & Global Energy Markets

NEW YORK: Global oil markets are experiencing another wave of volatility as Brent crude prices climb above $100 per barrel, raising concerns about inflation, economic growth and financial market stability. Escalating tensions in the Middle East, disruptions to international oil shipments and weather-related production shutdowns in the United States have combined to push energy prices higher.

On October 8, Brent crude futures rose approximately 4.1% to $102.28 per barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude climbed about 4.2% to $91.99. The increase comes at a difficult time for the American economy, where elevated borrowing costs and persistent inflation are already creating challenges for businesses, consumers and investors.
